A society with democratic governance and a pluralistic political system in which the fundamental rights and freedoms of the people are protected and in which laws, policies, and practices are directed towards environmental and socio-economic justice.
The Bulgarian Community for Liberal Democracy (BOLD) exists to support the development of society in the direction of the values of liberal democracy.
BOLD consists of individual members united by common goals, values , and principles.
BOLD has two main goals:
- To increase public support for democracy, human rights and fundamental freedoms
- To help consolidate the liberal-democratic community in Bulgaria
The governance of the state is based on majority decisions, which are constitutionally limited by the need to respect human rights and the rights of minorities.
The rights recognized in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and subsequent UN pacts and conventions must be respected, protected and exercised. International human rights law is a great achievement of humanity that must be preserved and developed.
Freedom is a supreme value and the basis of human rights. Individual civil liberties may be restricted only by law, only for strictly defined purposes, and only when necessary in a democratic society.
Communication through various and varied media, including electronic, embodies one of the basic civil liberties. In a democratic society, the media must be free from pressure and repression, and generally independent of political and economic interests.
All people must have a real opportunity to participate on an equal footing with everyone else in economic, cultural, political, and social life. Equal participation requires positive action and the prohibition of discrimination based on sex, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, disability, age.
All members of society, especially those in power, are equally subject to published legal norms.
There needs to be fair treatment and meaningful involvement of all people, regardless of their identity or situation, in the development and implementation of environmental, social, or economic policies.
The diversity of social and political groups, parties, organizations, and ideological and cultural communities is a value that should be welcomed and protected. The existence of organizations that aim to eliminate this diversity by force is not acceptable.
Those who would be affected by a decision have the right to participate in the decision-making process. Civic participation is a necessary part of democratic governance. Non-governmental organizations and other associations of civil society are vital to the functioning of the democratic system.
Groups that for historical, economic, socio-cultural, and other reasons are in a disadvantaged position, such as the Roma people in our country, or in a vulnerable position, such as children, should be subject to policies that ensure their equality, empowerment and social inclusion.
Innovative technologies, including digital and post-digital information and communication systems, must be actively introduced and serve to expand civil liberties and strengthen and develop democracy, including civic participation in governance and administrative services.
