BOLD participates in the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Republic of Northern Macedonia

On November 28, 2019, representatives of BOLD participated in a conference in Skopje, dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, which is our partner through its initiative “Mobilization”. BOLD and Mobilization have similar goals in strengthening support for liberal democracy.

The President of the Republic of Northern Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, made an address that made Bulgarian participants in the conference wonder when a Bulgarian head of state would make similar comments on the anniversary of the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee.

At the conference, Krassimir Kanev spoke on behalf of the BHC and BOLD during the third-panel discussion “The Citizen in the Age of Global Populism”. He spoke about the anti-liberal tendencies in Bulgaria and the reaction of the civil society, expressing hope that the partnership between the two organizations will help the common fight against the anti-liberal and anti-democratic movements in Bulgaria and Republic of Northern Macedonia.

We thank Katerina Petrova, a member of the BOLD Initiative Committee, for translating the speech from Macedonian.
