Vasil Chaprazov is a Roma public intellectual. Together with Andon Takev, Rusi Dechev and other Roma, in 1978 he founded an underground Roma organisation to fights against the assimilation and discrimination of the Roma and for their equality in society. From 1989, he was the first vice-president of the Democratic Union of Roma. In 1991, Vasil was elected chairman of the United Roma Union – the largest and most important Roma organization in Bulgaria, an incubator of ideas for the development of the Roma movement in Bulgaria and Europe.
Vasil is the author of numerous journalistic materials. In 1996, he published the collection of poems, I Wish for the Dawn, written ten years earlier. He is a member of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists, and a recipient of the Golden Pen award.
