Vanya Kaneva is an expert in the field of children’s rights and child welfare. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Politics and Economics from the University of Sussex, UK, and a master’s degree in Middle East Politics from the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.
Vanya works in “For Our Children Foundation”, one of the most prominent children’s human rights organisations in Bulgaria, where she manages the advocacy and projects programme.
She has been an active participant in a number of processes related to child policy reforms in recent years, including the process of deinstitutionalisation of childcare, the reform of social services legislation and the adoption of policies aimed at early childhood development. Vanya is among the authors of the National Child Strategy 2019-2030 (withdrawn by the government in 2029) and advocates for its adoption. She is the author and editor of several research papers and a number of articles.
Prior to working for “For Our Children Foundation”, Vanya worked for several child rights organizations in the UK, including UNICEF and the Lumos Foundation in London, as well as for rights groups defending vulnerable people. Her interests are in the field of policies to improve child welfare and promote early childhood development, as well as on the role of civil society organizations in protecting economic and social rights.
